Doesn't my Mac already have a Game Mode?
It does, and MacModes works alongside it. macOS Game Mode gives your game priority while it's in full screen, but your other apps stay open and keep their memory. MacModes' Game mode also closes or pauses them, pauses cloud sync and keeps your screen awake. How Game Mode on Mac works.
Which Macs does it work on?
Macs running macOS 26 Tahoe or later. It is built for Apple silicon.
Will it close apps with unsaved work?
No. MacModes quits apps the normal way, so any app with unsaved work still asks you first. You can also pause apps instead of quitting them.
Why does it ask for Accessibility permission?
Accessibility lets MacModes put windows back on their desktops, at their size and in full screen. Without it, MacModes can still quit, pause and open apps.
Does MacModes send my data anywhere?
No. MacModes makes no network connections. Your modes and layouts stay on your Mac, and private browser windows are never saved.
Why isn't it on the Mac App Store?
Apple's store requires a sandbox that doesn't allow apps to move other apps' windows or pause apps, which is what MacModes does. Apps like it are sold directly.
